Fumari Lounge

Leicester

A clean, well-presented venue with a great atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food did not live up to the premium pricing.

Food & Drink

20/40

For starters, we ordered the brisket rolls, bang bang chicken, tempura prawns, lamb chops, nachos, mac and cheese bites and beef ribs.

The beef ribs and brisket rolls were the standouts. Both were tender, flavourful and enjoyable. The lamb chops were also good, with plenty of flavour.

Unfortunately, several of the other starters were disappointing. The bang bang chicken and tempura prawns tasted very similar and both arrived less than hot. The mac and cheese bites were bland, lumpy and tasted like frozen/pre-prepared food. The nachos were OK, but had become soggy. The crispy fried onions were a nice touch.

For mains, we ordered the Miami Heat Burger, Brisket Sando and Smash Angus. Overall, the mains were just average. The biggest disappointment was the Brisket Sando, which lacked flavour and had an unpleasantly mushy texture.

Dessert was unfortunately the weakest part of the meal.

The Golden Standard Waffles did not have enough chocolate and felt underwhelming. The Midnight French Toast was dry, rather than having the soft, moist texture you would expect from proper French toast. The school cake was dry and hard, while the custard was watery.

Service

8/15

The staff were friendly, welcoming and pleasant throughout the visit, although they appeared to lack some knowledge of the menu.

We raised our concerns about the desserts with the manager. The suggested solution was to reheat the desserts and add more chocolate, which did not really address the actual quality issues we had raised.

Two desserts were eventually removed from the bill, although we had raised concerns about all three and had expected all three to be removed.

Cleanliness & Facilities

14/15

The venue was clean, well maintained and presented to a high standard.

This is definitely one of Fumari's stronger areas.

Atmosphere

12/15

Fumari has a very good atmosphere and visually the venue is impressive.

There was live entertainment shown on the large screen and the overall environment felt lively and premium.

The only downside was that the music was slightly too loud at times, making conversation more difficult.

Value for Money

4/15

This was one of the biggest issues.

The starters alone came to around £110, and once mains, desserts, drinks and two shishas were added, this became a very expensive meal.

Premium pricing is not necessarily a problem, but at this price point the food needs to be consistently excellent.

With several dishes arriving lukewarm, lacking flavour, being overly soggy or dry, the quality simply did not justify the overall cost.

Final verdict

58/100

Fumari Lounge certainly looks the part.

It is clean, lively, visually impressive and staffed by friendly people. There were some genuinely good dishes, particularly the beef ribs, brisket rolls and lamb chops.

However, the food was far too inconsistent for the price being charged. Several dishes ranged from average to disappointing, and all three desserts had noticeable quality issues.

The way the dessert complaint was handled also left us disappointed. Reheating dry food or adding more chocolate did not address the underlying problems, and removing only two of the three desserts from the bill felt like an inadequate resolution.

For a venue charging premium prices, both the food quality and complaint handling need to be considerably stronger.
